Cookies Policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

This page lists every cookie Flashebox sets, says plainly what each one is for, and explains how to refuse or remove the ones that are not strictly necessary. It is specific to this site.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits. Cookies set by flashebox.com are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by another company whose code runs on our pages — an advertising network, for example — are third-party cookies. Related technologies such as local storage and tracking pixels do similar jobs, and where we refer to cookies below we mean those too.

Cookies we set ourselves

These are first-party cookies. The first three are strictly necessary: the site cannot function without them, so they are set without asking, which the law permits.

Session cookieStrictly necessary. Keeps your current inbox attached to your browser session so the right mail is shown to the right window. Expires when you close the browser, or shortly after.
Security token (XSRF / CSRF)Strictly necessary. Protects forms against cross-site request forgery, so a third party cannot make your browser submit something on your behalf. Session-length.
Cookie notice flagStrictly necessary. Records that you have seen and answered the cookie notice, so it does not reappear on every page. Lasts up to 12 months.
PreferencesFunctional. Remembers choices such as a saved favourite or a selected domain, so the site behaves the way you left it. Lasts up to 12 months.

None of these follow you to other websites, and none are used for advertising.

Advertising cookies

Flashebox is free to use, and the site is funded by advertising supplied by Google, including through Google AdSense. At the time of this update advertising is not yet live on the site; what follows applies as soon as it is.

The disclosures Google requires, and which we make willingly:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to Flashebox and other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and out of other vendors' personalised-ad cookies at aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Vendors other than Google may also serve ads on this site and set their own cookies, governed by their own privacy policies. You can opt out of their personalised-ad cookies on their own sites.
  • Google explains its own handling of this data in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Advertising cookies are not strictly necessary, so where the law requires consent we set them only after you have given it, and you can withdraw that consent at any time through the cookie notice or by clearing cookies in your browser.

One thing worth being explicit about: advertising on this site is based on cookies and the ordinary request data your browser sends to the ad server. We do not pass the contents of your inbox, your messages, your temporary address or your account email address to advertisers or ad networks.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland

Google requires publishers to collect consent through a Google-certified consent management platform, integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework, before serving personalised advertising to users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Our cookie notice is how you give, refuse or withdraw that consent.

If you refuse consent for advertising cookies you can still use Flashebox exactly as before. You may still see advertising, but it will be non-personalised or limited — based on the page you are reading and coarse information such as approximate location, rather than on your browsing history.

Analytics

We do not run a third-party analytics product on this site. Basic traffic information comes from our own server logs, which are described in our Privacy Policy and are kept for 30 days. If we add an analytics tool later, we will list it here before it goes live.

How to control cookies yourself

You can refuse non-essential cookies through our cookie notice. Independently of that, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, and block third-party cookies specifically:

Blocking all cookies, including the strictly necessary ones, will stop parts of Flashebox from working — most visibly, your inbox may not stay attached to your browser session. Blocking only third-party cookies has no effect on the core service.

Changes to this policy

If we add, remove or change a cookie we will update this page and the date at the top. Where a change means we start collecting something new, we will say so plainly here rather than relying on you to compare versions.
